24 April 2022 - Capo d'Orlando

After a couple of hours of up wind sailing, and not quite making the course, the wind came round in our favour and we had a cracking sail for about three hours speeding along at 7 - 8 knots. We noticed another yacht about an hour behind us, heading in the same direction, which appeared to be catching us up for a while, but once we were off the wind, with the speed having picked up, we left it behind. It’s at time like these, that for no other reason than our competitive instinct kicks in, as far as we are concerned, we racing. They cannot be allowed to catch up. It was all good fun and made us pay attention to optimise the sail trim.

Our overnight anchorage at Pollina

We arrived at our anchorage outside Capo d’Olando Marina mid afternoon, with the lovely sight of a racing fleet out in the bay, obviously taking part in Sunday racing. Very little wind is forecast overnight, and we’ll be making a prompt start tomorrow, so we decided it’s not worth the cost of the fees to go into the marina, on this occasion. It’s a huge marina, well out of town, so not easy to get to see anything interesting ashore.

Volcanos in the mist,  more tomorrow....
