8 April 2022 - Trapani

It’s been an absolutely glorious day, weather wise. The best so far. Having been in wet weather jackets a couple of days ago, today has been 20C and plenty warm enough for t-shirt and shorts in the afternoon.

Since we moved to living on the boat, I think we’ve been to the laundrette, if not every day, then most days. It says it’s self service but the owner does it all for you with same day service, as long as we’ve taken the stuff in before 10.30. Now all the bedding, towels etc are smelling beautifully clean. Having got over his shock at our frequent visits, the proprietor just treats us as the regulars we are.

When we visited the butcher / deli shop, we were given huge slices of their cured meat to try. It’s lovely to see them so proud of the produce, and we will be back to buy more.

Steve went into the chandlery to see the cheery chaps and collect the further supply of flares, that we had ordered. They loved his reference to being Rocket Man, and since then I have the song on my brain. It’s money spent on safety equipment that we hope we will never have to use.

Luigi’s team came back to further secure the batteries and fit a new grill in a panel to allow better ventilation to the fridge compressor. They have been superb as a boat servicing company; the best since we were in Germany, four years ago. The three young ‘ragazzi’ are obviously very happy in their work. I suspect Luigi is a superb boss, to work for.

We haven’t managed to run since we arrived in Sicily; I think because of being too busy and then too knackered to go. Our exercise has been walking, and, again, today, we took off, late morning to the fishing quay, where, last year the fishermen were selling fish direct from their boats. We were too late. The boats were quiet. However we did find the fish market and a local told us they open at 07:00 tomorrow, so it will be an early start then, to go for some fresh fish.

Tonight is the first night we have cooked on board. It was a nice relaxing end to the day to just do our own thing.
