I was out early to run before breakfast, while Steve enjoyed a nice lie-in. The familiar sights from our previous stop here were all there: the fishermen presumably waiting for their skipper outside the fishing boat quay, the runners, dog walkers and occasional cyclist.
The fish shops are advertising local tuna for 12 euros a kilo. It must be the season for it. We will be buying some tomorrow. It’s also anchovy season so that will be amongst the food we buy for our onward journey.
| The biggest tuna we have ever seen. The guy was producing different cuts from it. |
Friends from our UK sailing club have been making a similar journey to us, in their boat, over the past five years. They set off before us and have mainly been ahead. We did meet in a bay in Sardinia two years ago but have taken different routes since. We met again today, when they and their family arrived here in Riposto. It’s so good to exchange stories and be together for a while. Andy and Alison will also be making their way to Croatia over the next few days and we’ll be playing leap frog up the heel and east coast of Italy, which is excellent.
Another big highlight of today, was a fabulous show, put on by the Earth. There was a laver flow from the top of Etna, that we could see very clearly from the boat, as daylight faded into the night. What a treat!
