It’s a national holiday today but you wouldn’t know it in the town. All the shops and the fish market were open as usual. We bought some things from the bakery, only because we haven’t seen them before. They looked like arancini, but were a cakey outer with creamy chocolate sauce in the middle, covered in biscuit crumbs and fried. It was a sort of panettone donut. We had them at afternoon teatime. They were quite nice but rather rich, so I’m not sure I’d be in a hurry to get them again.
We were aware there was a problem with the engine and had time to properly investigate it this morning. Unfortunately it’s a major issue with the seawater cooling system and requires a whole new housing and pump. We can’t go anywhere until it’s fixed so it’s going to keep us here in Riposto a few more days than we had planned. That’s ok, we will have plenty to keep us occupied.
We met George, of the buoy field, in the evening. He is absolutely charming and appears to be the local fixer. He is very keen to help arrange anything we may need and gave us some very useful information about places we might hit upon in the future.
We are intrigued by the three mega motor yachts in port. Two of them are brand new and the other fifteen years old. They average 60 metres in length and have numerous crew, who are clearly getting ready for guests to arrive. Today was safety briefing day on one of them. They even have pot plants at the quay end of the passerelle; it’s a whole different world to ours.
| Maybe we should bring our orange tree and put it on deck |
