Our task on each of these days was to fix the problem that had prevented us raising the mainsail on our voyage here. This proved to be a lot of work, and was not helped by the amount of wind blowing through the harbour. We knew that on each day the wind would get up later on, and knowing that we would have to get the sail out, we wanted to avoid having it partially loose on deck afterwards. We spoke to the manufacturer of the part causing the problem, and for once with them, the advice given was not very helpful, or for that matter in line with what we had been told when we have contacted them previously.
Anyway, on Monday we hit upon a plan that would allow us to resolve the situation, and proved that the first step was viable, before the stronger winds arrived. On Tuesday, we had to get the next phase of the work done, and this proved to be one of the toughest days we have ever had on the boat, and we didn't go anywhere! By the end of the day, we had the mainsail safely stowed on the deck and lashed down. We were totally exhausted and were having a few difficulties reassembling some parts we had taken apart. We were confident in our understanding of what was needed in the short term, and how we can avoid this issue in the future.
Fortunately, Crotone seems like a very nice place, and has very friendly and helpful people. Maybe we will see a little more of it tomorrow after we have finished our repairs. At the end of the day, our friend making the same journey arrived, and said that they would help us in the morning.
