We have invented a new way of measuring the wind strength. When we arrived here, we carefully set the distance to the pontoon so that our long passerelle reached comfortably, without it completely blocking the pontoon. When we woke on Sunday, the strong wind had come round behind us to push the boat away from the pontoon. It was going to be marginal whether the passerelle would reach, so we had to tighten the stern lines to ensure that it would be supported on the pontoon end when we walked across. During the day, we could see the passerelle moving backward and forward across the pontoon, as the wind eased and strengthened.
The marina in Brindisi is a very large modern one, with good facilities. There is a good atmosphere down at the end where the office and restaurant are, but we are fairly remote from that, which was good on Saturday night when there was music going on until the small hours.
We spent Sunday relaxing and doing some chores. This involved using the rather idiosyncratic laundry facilities. As a result we had to go back and forth multiple times. By the end of the day, my phone recorded that I had walked 3.9 km, and I had not even been outside of the marina!
When darkness fell, we saw the marinaro zooming around on an
electric scooter, checking on the boats.
He had lights on the scooter and a headtorch, so it was easy to follow
his progress. As he came past us, we saw that he also had a dog with him,
racing ahead. The dog must know the routine
very well.
On Monday we took the bus into the centre of Brindisi, to do
some shopping. It was very pleasant to walk around the town and waterfront
area.
We have prepared to leave tomorrow, and paid the bill so
that we can just go when we are ready, rather than having to wait for the office
to open. There was a bit of confusion when the marina tried to charge us for
more days than we had actually stayed, but it turned out that a date had been entered
in error. Once resolved, the boss asked
us to follow him to the back office, where we were given a rather nice bottle
of wine. It will be much appreciated when we drink it.
