After a wonderfully peaceful night, we headed to the next island in, Hvar. We visited here many years ago, when we chartered and weren’t surprised to find that it is much busier. There was a stream of small, very fast moving motor boats screaming along, between Hvar and Vis. We had right of way, so held our course and speed, until one of them was heading to cut us in half. I had to ram on the power to avoid a collision. When I waved my fist at the driver, he waved back at me. Even though these are commercial vessels, taking paying passengers, we don’t know whether they know the rules of the road or not. On this occasion, it appeared not.
After this we were able to enter our chosen bay, well away from the busy town and embarked on our first attempt at anchoring with lines to the shore. Fortunately Stevo had given us a heads up on how to do it and another yacht arrived ahead of us so we could watch them first. If there was a day to do it, it was today, when there was almost no wind and plenty of space between the boats already in. All went well. Stevo would be proud of us, and we have used our deck mounted reel of flat rope, designed for this purpose, for the first time.
