17 June 2022 - Lucice

We have time to make it an easy few days as we work our way towards Trogir where we will meet our son Chris. Today we had decided on a bay on Brac that has mooring buoys and a restaurant ashore.

We headed off on a journey that took us through some of the maze of islands that make up this area. As we approached the narrowest and shallowest gap that we had to pass through today, we spotted a large motor cruiser coming the other way, and decided that we would slow to let him come through.  He pressed on at a reasonable speed, and then changed course as we expected part way through the channel. We concluded that we should give him more space and pulled towards the very edge of the channel to let him pass. He then changed course again, directly towards us, still going fast.  Fortunately because we had slowed earlier there was still a bit of space before a headland projected, and we slammed on more power to hide in this area. When the boat came past, there appeared to be no one on the wheel, and just a group of guys sitting on the flybridge chatting.  They received shouts and gestures from us, and just waved back.  We concluded that they had set the autopilot to follow a predefined route, and just let it do so with no supervision and no watch being kept.  We were furious!

We headed for a lovely bay at Lucice, where there were mooring buoys belonging to a restaurant. We duly found one and settle down. In due course a guy came round to collect the money for the mooring buoy, for which cash was necessary.  Fortunately we had the sense to ask if the restaurant took cards, which he said that they did not. We did not have enough remaining cash to be able to eat ashore, so we cobbled together a rather splendid evening meal from what we had left.  We had been running the stores down in the knowledge that we will be in Trogir tomorrow for a major restocking.
