8-10 June 2022 - Manfredonia - WOW! (Waiting on Weather)

One of the great joys of the life we are leading is to visit a place that you have no great expectations of, and find it to be delightful. Such is the case with Manfredonia. Before we decided that we had to come here, I had never heard of it. It doesn't feature on the popular tourist trail, and we are quite noticeably about the only British people here. Most of the shopkeepers have little or no English, which rather supports the idea that there are few foreign tourists. I fear that some of that may change over the next few months, as like us, many Brits will be having to head out of the Schengen area, with our 90 day allowance running out. This is a prime spot to leave Italy for Croatia, and has all of the Boarder Police and Customs officials that are necessary to formally check out. In the meantime, however, it is a great to be able to wander the streets and shops of this unpretentious town.

As we have said, the marina is huge and modern, but the service is exceptional. We had been having a problem with the key to open the rubbish disposal area, and I headed to the office to seek instructions. They issued a different key and by the time I had walked from the office to the bin store, a guy was waiting to check that the new key solved the problem.

The weather has kept us here for these days and is likely to for another few. We have had torrential rain with thunder and lightning, and then strong winds. The temperature has also dropped significantly and is in some ways quite refreshing.  The duvets have had to go back on the beds, although sleep has been interrupted by the movement of the boat and the sounds coming from outside. Anyway, we have been stuck in far worse places in the past. We have filled our time with exploring the town and its shops, plus reading and watching films.
