24 June 2022 - Olive Bay

What joy to wake up in complete peace and serenity.

We had only a short distance to go, so made it longer by going round the west side of Sestrunj. When we last came sailing here 10 -15 years ago, a lot of the islands were quite barren, apparently due to the shepherds burning the forests to increase the grazing land for their sheep, in days of yore. It looks as if the trees, or at least bushes, are starting to come back. Most of the islands are now green.

We arrived in Olive Bay by the town of Sutomiscica on the island of Ugljan, in the mid afternoon. This is a very pretty bay, with an attractive looking marina. Along the coastal edge of the bay are the typical white houses with terracotta roofs. We anchored outside the marina and were joined later, by a few other boats. It was great to again swim in the crystal clear water.

During the evening there was obviously a party going on in the town, completed with fireworks, which we had a great view of.
