10 September 2022 - Rovinj

It’s time to move on. Fortunately the next band of heavy rain came through around breakfast time and, by the time we got to the market to restock our provisions, the sky had cleared. It being Saturday the market was very busy, mostly with locals, but joined by a few tourists. There were extra stalls outside selling flower. The fruit and vegetable stalls were selling very good quality food.

We slipped lines about 11.30 and, once outside the shelter of the harbour, had a nice breeze to sail. The wind direction moved around in our favour en route, giving us excellent conditions. We were only about an hour from our destination, when the wind died.

We tied to one of the mooring buoys in a bay just south of the town of Rovinj. It’s a very pretty bay with a park, edged by a beach, on one side and hotels on the other side. We were advised to attach one mooring line to the top ring of the buoy and another to the ring, at the top of the chain, underneath the buoy. The only way to achieve this, as far as we can see, is for me to swim with the mask and snorkel the thread the rope through the small shackle. That duly done, we felt we would be secure. Good thing the water is reasonably warm.

A very quiet young lad came to collect the fee in the early evening. It must be a rather nice summer holiday job.
