15-16 September 2022 - Pula

We are in "Waiting on Weather" mode, tucked up safe and sound in harbour. The bad weather has not hit yet, it is due on Saturday, but we are content to wait. We have spent the time on shopping, going for a run before breakfast (not my favourite) and building up the food supplies, on top of really exciting jobs like fixing one of the toilets and defrosting the fridge. It is all glamour on a boat.

We have met some really nice, friendly guys from Munich who have chartered a boat for a week and been stuck in port for several of the days.  They have been very interested in Equinox, and said that we were doing what they dreamed of.  They decided to go home on Friday, cutting short their charter by a day, because of the weather.

We have walked along the sea wall around the side of the bay where we cycled on Wednesday.  Apparently there is a Festival of Lights here this weekend, and we saw them setting up floating lights as part of it, together with some art "installations" that did nothing for us.

We have enjoyed the usual aspects of port theatre, especially from some of the charter boats. One made about 6 or 7  attempts to moor, albeit in a difficult cross-wind, before the charter company sent someone in a rib to go on board and do it for them.  He managed it at the first attempt, as we had expected.  We also had a boat next to us, who came in with the usual 6+ guys on board. They got one of the stern lines on ok, and then when the marinaro moved to the other side, the guy on the boat tried to swing the line, rather than throw it.  The marinaro made one attempt to catch it, and then told him to throw the part of the line that was not attached to the boat. The guy continued to try to swing the line, with the marinaro showing ever less inclination to try to catch it. He looked at me, and his expression showed absolute disgust at the attempts to get the line to him.  Eventually, the whole line was thrown and the marinaro made it off.  As he walked away, he caught my eye, shrugged and shook his head in disbelief.
