It is the day of the Queen’s funeral, which we were keen to watch.
Exercise was needed, so we rowed the short distance to the shore in the tender and went for a walk, initially through woods, past a campsite and on to a small village at the head of the bay. Lots of small boats were moored on buoys. It is very pretty. I suspect a lot of the properties are either seconds homes or holiday apartments. It’s all part of the holiday area that is this south west tip of Istria.
We spend most of the rest of the day, until early evening, watching
the funeral. I’m so pleased we got to see it live, from so far away.
We have seen very few British boats in the Adriatic, but, by chance
there were three in a line here. John, from the boat next to us, had rowed
across in the morning and invited us to drinks in the evening, so we Brits
could mark the day together. And so six of us got together, toasted the new
King and had a superb evening exchanging stories. Derek and Thea keep their boat of
Trieste, in Italy and have been sailing in Croatia for more than ten years.
They clearly know the coast well, so gave us very useful information. John and
Elaine, who hosted us, have recently arrived in Istria, having brought their
boat over from France on a lorry. We all got on very well
and had lots of laughs together. It was a great way to end this special
day.
