The night was completely peaceful and calm, so much more restful.
We slipped lines at 08.00 to catch the time of having wind to travel the roughly 34 miles to the island of Molat. Again it’s the same bay we had travelled to on the way up to Istria because we knew we would get good shelter from wind that was due during the night there. We had an absolutely fabulous sail, mainly close hauled or just off the wind. It was quite gusty so almost constant sail trim was needed in order to not get overpowered. That kept us on our toes. There were lots of boats out, going in different directions, between the islands, which was great to see.
We arrived in the buoy field in Molat Bay mid afternoon, joined in our approach by two yachts, each being sailed single handed by a lady. That is really an usual sight. They gave us a cheery wave as they came in past us.
Steve wanted to rerun the reefing line for the main sail, which involved hoisting the sail in little or no wind to take apart the track that the line runs through in the boom. This did not turn out to be straight forward and we managed to sheer the casing of the rope. Fortunately with a quick bit of rope whipping, we got the sail down. The difficulty is that the electric winches are so strong, that you are not immediately aware of the rope being jammed, but at least we realised while it was just the casing damage, before the rope completely broke. We’ll have to get a new line before we can use the sail again, but that wont hinder us too much, as we are heading to our home port of Biograd to shelter from the next weather system to bring us high winds and rain.
