30/31 August, 1 September 2022 - Biograd

It has been a bit more of "hurry up and wait". There are still some jobs around the boat that need to be completed and Marko, who has been looking after the boat for us was back today (Tuesday).  He came and we talked through what he had found during our time away, and what is still needed before we go. The best news is that the configuration changes made to the battery charging have worked and hopefully we will have no more problems with this.

Our spray hood has been returned and we have borrowed an inflatable from Marko, as ours is showing signs of wear and tear.  The one we are borrowing is bigger than ours, so we will see if this is the right size before we commit to a new one prior to next season's sailing.

We have finished the process of cleaning and flushing through the water tanks and so all fully operational. We will have just top them up before we leave. We have also had a major visit to the supermarket and so should be able to eat for a while. We will just need to get fresh fruit and veg, bread, meat and fish as we go on.

On Wednesday morning a diver came to clean the bottom of the boat. We have been places where things grow very quickly on the bottom and did not know how badly this area is afflicted. We have heard alarming tales of places where the growth was so bad that the rudder would not move. The diver was only with is for an hour and it seems that there was not much growth at all, so we are relieved and reassured.  It is very weird to hear the rubbing on the hull and the sound of his bubbles, especially when we are below deck.

The sun is very hot in the middle of the day, but the evenings and nights are much cooler than they were, which is a relief.  There are also noticeably fewer people around than at the end of June, so everything is a bit more relaxed.

We were pretty well ready to depart on Wednesday, but the forecast for Thursday was for a day of rain, and as we knew that we would be at an anchorage on our first night out, we decided to postpone leaving until Friday. A day of sailing in the rain and/or sitting at anchor just watching it was not an appealing prospect. The forecast turned out to be largely correct, although the skies cleared enough for us to have a walk in the afternoon, and explore Biograd a bit more.

There a couple of these semi submarines for trippers, presumably to see either dolphins or some other underwater delight. This one was painted in Sponge Bob Square Pants livery.
