We have concluded that it is time to move on, so were up and preparing promptly today. The anchor came up as covered with sticky mud as we have expected, but it did mean that we have been totally secure while here.
We headed back out of the long and at times shallow entry to
the bay and islands, and then turned north again to move on to Pula. We had the
steady wind behind us, so went with just the jib up. Even so on a leg of about
8 miles, we overtook another boat who had both his sails up, (although not well
set in our opinion). Eventually he copied
our sail plan and the speed we were leaving him behind reduced.
The entrance to Pula is via a strange semi submerged sea
wall, before you turn into a sheltered inlet.
On the way in we passed a very ugly ship building / dismantling
facility, but fortunately this is largely hidden from where we are moored,
right in the city.
We are next to the Roman amphitheatre, apparently the 6th
largest in the world and the best preserved.
The cranes in the shipyard are lit up at night, which makes them far prettier than they are during daylight.
We arrived in time to find a much needed launderette and get our washing done. The driers were rather inefficient and so we had to sit for ages, through multiple cycles, until the clothes were tolerably dry. It was great to get this chore done today as the weather tomorrow is meant to be very wet, and the idea of trudging through the rain, lugging our laundry does not appeal to either of us.
We are moored next to guy who is German, but speaks fluent English
and Italian. In the evening, he went out to dinner with his lady partner. She
tottered across the deck and the passerelle in her stilettos (it would not be
allowed in this boat), and then they each got on an electric scooter to go
out. Strange world we live in!
