13 October 2022 - Otok Rava

Clouds meant that the sun only made an appearance after it was well risen.

Either sailing schools or charter companies are using this bay on Zut for circuits and bumps. This morning the lesson was obviously alongside parking and springing off the pontoon. I’m guessing the students really hadn’t done this before because they weren’t great at it. Hopefully they will get lots more practice so they improve.

A small motor boat arrived at the main quay, dropped off empty wheelie bins and collected the full ones. This was obviously the bin men boat.

We pumped up the dinghy and rowed to a tiny little harbour, if you could call it that, on the south side of the bay. There is a group of houses on the shore, some derelict, so we hoped there might be a path nearby. We had in mind to climb the hill behind the marina, but having read some of the marina reviews on Navily (Tripadvisor for boats), we though they might be rather sniffy about us taking the tender to their pontoon, having anchored and not paid for mooring. Unfortunately from where we landed, we couldn’t find a path, having scrabbled up the hillside. There are tiers of dry stone walls, with gaps in them to enable you to get through more easily than ascending each wall. We had almost reached the summit of this peninsular, but couldn’t find a path, so abandoned our idea to go any further.

Around midday, we slipped anchor and were on our way to travel about 15miles north, to a little island of Rava, off the east coast of Dugi Otuk. There was no wind and a glassy sea, so we motored all the way. We had more entertainment from the fire planes picking up water, quite near us, during part of the journey.

We will post video of this here when we are able to

We passed several fish farms and then found the channel beside Dugi Otuk very pretty.

There were three bays to choose from and we went for the middle one, because the ground around the bay is a little higher than the others and will give us better shelter from some east wind we are expecting in the night. The bay is full of mooring buoys but, the only other boat is small motor boat, that arrived very quietly after dark. It is beautifully peaceful and quiet. Nobody has come to collect money.
